Fanfare Ciocarlia is one of the world’s greatest gypsy brass bands, a Balkan beast whose Eastern funk groove has torn up halls and festivals across the planet. The sons of farmers in a remote village of north-eastern Romania, the band members inherited their profession of musician and their instruments from their fathers and grandfathers. For each one, every concert is a memorable celebration, a competition to entertain the audience and to demonstrate why they have become the guardians of the true spirit of gypsy music.
Speaking a local dialect of Romani, they have conquered,  with the help of the international language of music, an audience of punks and skins, fans of jazz, funk and world music, and just enthusiasts of authentic music.
They became known in Spain in the year 2000 with the unforgettable show El tiempo de los gitanos, during which they alternated with other gypsy groups such as Taraf de Haidouks, Esma Redzepova and ‘The Gypsies of Rajastán’.
Fanfare Ciocarlia has published twelve albums, several of which topped European lists of world music. They were commissioned by Sacha Baron Cohen to record ‘Born to be Wild" and "Just the 2 of Us" for the soundtracks of the films Borat I and Borat II, and have been sampled and adapted, championed and emulated by countless DJs, bands and gypsy orchestras all over the world.
Put simply, no one does it better, louder, faster and funkier that Fanfare Ciocarlia.
