Can a mother love too much? Are there limits to that love? What happens when a child grows up and leaves? Anne has built a life around her son Nicolas, and now that he is gone, she must face the loss, the empty nest and the true bond with her husband.
Has she lived for herself or for others? Has it been worth it? Is there any meaning to what remains? The choices she has made haunt her and there is so much she wants to say now.
Zeller, obsessed with the fragility of affection, creates a text that questions the limits of loneliness, emptiness and sanity.
Aitana Sánchez-Gijón returns to the stage to perform this gripping and moving play by Florian Zeller, the most performed living French playwright in France and abroad.
The Mother is part of the family trilogy completed by The Son and The Father. The latter has won the most prestigious awards in the performing arts, has been performed in more than fifty countries, and the film version by the same author won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
