London in the 11th century. The life of young Rob J. Cole changes the day he is orphaned and discovers that he has an incredible gift: he can predict death. Adopted as an apprentice by a barber surgeon, Rob travels throughout England, discovering life, discipline and his curiosity to learn. At the age of nineteen, a Jewish physician tells him about far-away Persia, where there is a school of medicine whose Director is Avicena, the wisest man of the time. Rob is ready to travel half-way around the world to meet him. As he crosses the desert in a caravan, he meets Mary, a girl from Scotland who will remind him of his origins and will mark his plans for the future. In Ispahan, nothing will be easy for Rob, whether it’s passing himself off as a Jew in order to be able to study or his relationship with the Sha, who is infatuated with this new friend. He soon becomes one of Avicena’s best pupils, but a plague, a war and a tyrant will put his life to test. Only friendship, his vocation and love will enable him to survive.
