Hand programme (ESP)

14.4 seeks to explore, with language that is crudely realistic and at the same time undisguisedly lyrical and poetic, the journey that separates two worlds that exist just 14.4 kilometres from each other.
We will follow the story of Ahmed, a boy who runs away from family abuse to live in the streets of Tangiers with the obsession of reaching Spain. A country imagined as paradise on earth, the end of the journey, the Ithaca of which all travelers dream. At age 9, Ahmed succeeds in crossing to Spain hidden under a truck. Here, in the promised land, there will be another odyssey which was not dreamed but that is not devoid of a sense of humour, adventures, solidarity networks and unexpected endings.”  Juan Diego Boto
14.4 originated in 2009 during the shooting of the short film Metropolis Ferry, by Juan Gautier, which tells the story of how a Moroccan boy hidden under a truck is mistreated by port authorities. On the first day of shooting, the actor hired to play the role of the boy did not show up, and Ahmed Younoussi, the boy whose story was being told, took his place.  Ahmed, who was 17 years old and was accompanied by this tutor. That day I promised them that one day I would bring him on stage to share his story with the audience. 15 years have gone by, and the circle is closed.
This show is necessary because of the story that is told; it is a tribute to all those who “tutor”, help, welcome and care for these children we call MENAS [non-accompanied minors] and who, like in the case of Ahmed, have lived in the streets from a very young age fleeing from the hell of their homes, dreaming with the  illusion of a Europe which is still very far from taking them in account.”  Sergio Peris-Mencheta
