Because of its rich content and complexity, Nobel prize winner Mario Vargas’ masterpiece has hardly ever been adapted to the theatre.
The author narrates the last days of the Dominican Republic dictator Trujillo through Urania Cabral, a successful lawyer who mysteriously abandoned the island as a little girl. Three decades later she returns to visit her dying father, Senator Agustin “Cerebrito” Cabral and former high ranking member of the regime who had fallen into disgrace. During her stay, the secret that she has kept since she fled the country will be revealed.
Based on real facts, The Feast of the Goat is a lesson of life; it reminds us that bravery and dignity are the only antidotes to malice and brutality.
