Ramón, whose mother recently passed away, wants to improve his singing technique for her memorial service and goes to ask Amelia, a severe singing teacher, for help.  The song he has chosen has a special meaning for him, and apparently for Amelia as well. Despite her initial reluctance, she finally agrees to help the young man.

“What is it that makes us human? With everything we are and do, what do you think really defines our human nature? For Amelia, a mother with a deep-routed soul wound, the answer is pain. What really makes us human is the capacity to feel the pain of others as one’s own pain. She says that this is what sets us apart from beasts. That feeling is the backbone of La golondrina.”  Guillem Clua
