For the last two decades, the audacious, controversial and innovative Columbian group Puerto Candelaria (2019 Latin Grammy 2019 for Best Cumbia Album) has been a fundamental element of the movement that has redefined the Latin American musical industry, and one of the major international representatives of the new music of Columbia. An explosion of sound that has transcended borders, defied schemes and forged its way to the Latin American independent musical scene.
Its proposal –subject of study at Berklee College of Music and at the Conservatories of Music of Rotterdam and Beijing–, is an audacious musical journey through cumbia, rock, ska, chucu chucu, world music and its own genres, Colombian style jazz and underground cumbia. Its prestige is based on a mature concept and staging full of humour, theatre and spontaneity that provokes both “delirious dancing and profound reflection”.
