In her eighth studio album the vocalist Robin McKelle delves into the catalogue of some of the most celebrated women singers who have been a model and inspiration in her career- Dolly Parton, Amy Winehouse, Sade, Janis Joplin, Adele, Carol King, Joni Mitchell, Billie Holiday and Lana del Rey– lending  her voice and particular vision of jazz to their emblematic repertoire. ‘Back to black’, ‘Rolling in the deep’, ‘River’, ‘No ordinary love’, ‘Mercedes Benz’… are some of the pieces she recovers and recreates with her powerful and expressive voice. The songs on Alterations are diverse in tone and mood. For McKelle, ‘alteration’ is  everything, “because when you create change, you create space to change something in the world and in yourself - as an artist and a human being- and that is a change for the good”.
Before beginning her career as leader, McKelle was a backup singer for Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Jon Secada.
