Elena is a young soprano who wants to succeed as an opera singer  with the support of Bataglia, her singing teacher. But her father, Don Nicholas, is against the idea as he wants to impede that his affair with an opera singer be  discovered. Elena’s boyfriend is also an opera singer, although he says he is an agricultural engineer to avoid Don Nicholas’ opposition. By chance, they all coincide in Burgos for a performance of Rossini’s Barber of Seville, with a series of amusing situations, encounters and failed encounters typical of comedies of intrigue ensuing.
Although it is not often performed, El barbero de Sevilla is a marvelous zarzuela. Its famous polonaise ‘Me llaman la primorosa’ is part of the repertoire of all light lyric sopranos, and its brilliant libretto is a sketch not to be missed.
