As the sun begins to set behind the waters of Lake Constance, the fantastic performances at the Bregenz Festival raise the imaginary curtain of the world's largest floating stage. As of that moment, the 7,000 spectators gathered at the open-air auditorium will dive into the stunning visual and musical experience of the opera festival, an international event since it began in 1946, one year after the end of World War II.
The aria ‘Nessun dorma' sung by Calaf converted this Puccini opera into one of the most famous ever written. On the fabulous stage over Lake Constance at the Bregenz Festival, designed by Marco Arturo Marelli, the silhouette of a dragon blends in with the Great Wall of China. Marelli wanted to use symbols of Chinese power to present this tragedy on stage, displaying up to 200 terracotta warriors. Undoubtedly, a spectacular production for an everlasting opera.
