With a career spanning more than five decades, having reached the skies of flamenco dancing, accumulated all existing awards and produced more than twenty shows, the time has come to enjoy the fruit of so much work.
The “Goddess of dance” is starting to say goodbye to the stage, without completely leaving because that is impossible and because she is made of dance and bones. This tour is to give back to her public everything it has given her.
Manuela Carrasco (Seville, 1958), daughter of the flamenco dancer José Carrasco ‘el Sordo’ whose mother was linked by marriage with the Camborio family. Without any formal training or initial support from her family, she started dancing at the flamenco venue El Jaleo in Torremolinos when she was ten. Two years later, she toured all of Europe with the company of Curro Vélez. On her return to Spain she was contracted as a soloist at Los Canasteros in Madrid. Since 1973 she has been one of flamenco’s principal and most respected figures. Her slender figure and gypsy beauty make her stand out and delight the audience. She continues to learn on her own and enrich her dances within an expressive gypsy range, full of vitality and arrogance.
Her career is market by multiple milestones and prizes, such as the 2007 National Dance Award, the 2008 Medal of Andalusia, the 2018 Golden Medal of Merit for Fine Arts, which she received from the King and Queen of Spain, and the 2019 Compás del Cante Award.
Her historic soleá is recorded for posterity in Carlos Saura’s film Flamenco.
