Included in Cervantes’ Don Quijote, the story of wealthy Gamash’s plan to marry beautiful Kitri, who is in love with the barber Basilio, inspired M. Petipa and L. Minkus in 1869 to create this ballet, one of the essential works of the classical repertoire. All modern productions stem from the version staged by Alexander Gorski for the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow in 1900.
In 2017 Viktor Ishchuk (1983), the prestigious soloist of the Theatre of the Opera of Kyiv, created together with Ukraine’s most outstanding artists a stable company with which to present to the world their talent, skill and professionalism.
The Kyiv Ballet’s main objectives include conserving the traditions and essence of pure classical ballet. Due to the temperance of the choreographies, the perfection of their lines, the virtuosity of the soloists and the brightness and grandiosity of the sets and the costumes, each performance is a feast for the senses thanks.
Following the major success of its tours through Spain in 2022 and 2023, the Ballet de Kiev is returning to our country with a version of Don Quijote which stands out due to tis energy, humour and technical excellence.
